Picturing Bradford: Callout from Impressions Gallery
Part of the country-wide Picturing High Streets initiative
This month, I’ll be continuing to work on my Photographing Bradford series, with a view to submitting images for Impressions Gallery’s Picturing Bradford call out.
In line with my current project, I will create work relating to the following brief:
Hidden Histories
Look up to find overlooked architectural details, forgotten signs and clues to a high street’s past.
I have some images already shot that fit this criteria, as well as a number planned, particularly relating to the look up, architectural details and clues to a high street’s past prompts.
The deadline for entries is the 20th of May, so I have roughly a month to create new work, edit the existing images, and edit and order the images.
A couple of ideas floating around in my head process-wise are;
Vary my routes through the city in order to get new viewpoints, even walking on different sides of the road to usual, going up streets in a different direction.
Look up, as advised in the brief, but also in other directions that are unusual to me.
Get above and below street level.
I work in a four story building in the city centre, how can I usse this to my advantage?
Below are a couple of images I may or may not submit for the call out.

Good on you for gravitating to local projects. I enjoy following your endeavors, I think most photographers I interact with shortchange their own photography by ignoring local interests and blind themselves with their own imaginings of far-away places that will magically inspire them.
I was wondering if you are entirely driven by the deadlines and briefs of external parties as you've described or have other self-initiated projects locally? Of course with there are external factors that drive subject, theme, deadlines, and other constraints it can be psychologically easier. I know that it's difficult to constrain your own projects (sometimes far more difficult than one would imagine).
One of the things I've found helpful is self-publishing as a constraint mechanism. I have a few musings on it here:
