New Year's Hike around Newmillerdam
My first newsletter of 2024 sees me and the family take an unexpected hike around a partially flooded Newmillerdam Country Park!
Usually on a visit to Newmillerdam, we’d take a walk around the lake, maybe venturing into the surrounding woods a couple of times to explore. Around halfway round the lake this time, was a large flooded area that we weren’t equipped for, so had to take a detour away from the lake onto higher ground.
A view from the top of the hill, through a corridor in the trees. At this point, we were sure our detour would just take us around the edge of the lake, just at the higher level…
We continued walking for roughly half an hour in the vague direction we though was correct, but upon a cursory look on google maps, realised we’d be walking away from the lake…
Quick shots of some cool mossy rocks, and a somewhat grizzled tree stump.
We ended up course-correcting, spenind another half hour or so getting back to the car. Not the best situation for a tired seven year old, recovering from a cold, but he got on with it like a trooper, leading the way most of the time!
Feel free to share this newsletter with anyone interested!
Enjoyed the article? What do you think I should cover next?
sounds and looks like a lovely area! I’ve always found that the best hikes are the ones where I get a little “lost”..
Love the images. Especially the top image, very strong with the trees.
